So there have been some very interesting things for a reasonably logical discussion that have been omitted by all parties...
A) For biblical citations which one is being used as a point of reference (translated, rewritten, non/canonized etc) remember that LDS Articles of Faith asserts:
--8 We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.--
This will assist in various citations and provide reference!
B)I suspect the POV of JD is from the apologetic evangelism if I had to make a wild guess....This helps to provide light (denomination or non-denominational)
C)LDS Articles of Faith http://scriptures.lds.org/en/a_of_f/1
D) LDS accepted scriptures include: Bible (KJV); Book Of Mormona (Another Testament of Jesus Christ); Doctrine and Covenants; 4) Pearl of Great Price; 5) modern day revelations from prophets and apostles (Joseph Smith to present); personal revelation (ability to have things confirmed by the Holy Ghost
E) LDS - Do Not believe in the Holy Trinity, rather in three distinct beings (God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost/Spirit that has not yet received his body)
F) The Book of Mormon is not as earlier mentioned our Bible, although we do believe the assertion from Joseph Smith on the Introduction Page to be true “I told the brethren that the Book of Mormon was the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion, and a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other book.”
G)In addition to Joseph Smith, the Lord provided for eleven others to see the gold plates for themselves and to be special witnesses of the truth and divinity of the Book of Mormon. Their written testimonies are included herewith as “The Testimony of Three Witnesses” and “The Testimony of Eight Witnesses.”
H) The message of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the same as many others, and we invite all to come explore the Gospel of Jesus Christ that is written, to search it out for themselves and then ask the Creator (which by the way was Jehovah, Jesus Christ) if the things which they have discovered are true... or in other words (Book Of Mormon Introduction page states)- We invite all men everywhere to read the Book of Mormon, to ponder in their hearts the message it contains, and then to ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ if the book is true. Those who pursue this course and ask in faith will gain a testimony of its truth and divinity by the power of the Holy Ghost. (See Moroni 10: 3-5.)
