Tonight, in Logan, Utah we had 2 bags of candy amd MAYBE made it thru one bag...
wtc....
half of the green meadows (adjacent neighborhood) houses seemed empty or not participating....as i took the kids around at 8 pm it seemed like Halloween was shattered...
i am grateful to those who allowed children to come and participate, thankful for the many compliments about our pumpkin carving, but i do hope this was just an off year...i use Halloween ad a measurement of sorts of local community and its health...
there were quite a few familiar faces but many seemed to be missing...although i understand it may not be healthy, the activity of tricks or treats is awesome...we teach and allow little children the opportunity to approach strangers with trust, in an appropriate and controlled setting seeking in their innocence, a simple acceptance rewarded by a sugary token in the form of a sweetened treat...even if folks don't like the candy and were to throw it away, to replace it and retreat to other forms such as trunk or treats or business hand outs, it is a tragedy to me to see our neighborhoods losing that thing that sets us apart from other nations...
i am part of a faith that requests 2 years of service once 18 or 19, wherein i approached complete strangers to share a message and humbly offer selfless acts of service...trick or treating provided me a great ground work of how to do so...
in other areas of professional life, learning to know how to approach various folks goes back to my wandering treating experiences...
i just don't get it...
WHERE HAVE ALL THE TRICK-OR-TREATERS GONE!!!
