Logical Fallacies and Newsmedia

- Continuting criticism from those disagreeing with LDS Leaders

I am posting a comment here:
This is due to a string on FB from my wife's old journalism teacher...

My Thoughts are below!

This is amusing...
I am against poor logic--in arguments, in people, in life. Correcting logical errors and fallacies just takes too much energy. I would rather someone not be persuaded of the truth, than be persuaded by the wrong argument for the wrong reasons.

E. Packer simply stated a deviation from a moral construct is wrong.  This was a clarification.  This is what those that are called of God (subject to belief and opinion of if their is a God or if the person is called etc) are requested by duty to do as inspired by Deity.

Anyone that makes a judgment, 'bashes' at its base form (not everyone is going to agree/disagree with the decision maker).. We could follow this logic further to express that Ted's (the original poster of the link) original citation and attached statement is 'bashing' and therefore hypocritical with or without cause which weakens the statement from a logical reasoning perspective... I'd expect more from one that decided Yale was not for him (Ted)...

The perpetuation of 'logical fallacies' adopted based on a point of view is skewed from the moment an emotional attachment enters the reasoning...

The LDS faith has established doctrines based on a belief... Those beliefs may or may not be accepted by others... It might be well to be reminded that the current 'accusers' have not yet faced an extermination order by a state and/or nation nor have been required to locate outside of a jurisdiction in order to gain acceptance...There may be a larger platform for an alliance based on history and malevolence, but it seems many choose not to remember this in their emotional arguments...selective recall is a key flaw in the emotional disputes of our time...

Before one dances down the pathetic and poorly constructed path attached to 'logical fallacies',
one should:
a. research,
b. be thorough...
c. state your facts...
d. produce sources...
e. be a journalist...

For goodness sakes, that what you profess in your classrooms...or did you forget that is the point of being a professor...I wonder if being in administration has skewed that from the practitioner in the world of academics...I am amused as those that impress the persona of being a discoverer of truth, often surrenders themselves from this notion as they slip away from that ideal.  All too often, laziness replaces the ability for a mind to creatively and thoroughly construct a complete viewpoint....

Kudos to Elder Packer and others in the leadership of the LDS Faith.  Many are rooted to stray from an ideal due to public opinion, power, mainstream deviance and other reasoning.....Thank you for standing strong to that which you have been preaching for years.  Where were your critics 30 years ago?

Oh how I digress.....
